Job summary

Lamar County School District is seeking an Instructional Paraprofessional to assist certified staff in the classroom and support students toward instructional goals. This role frees teachers from non-professional duties by handling small-group work, supervision, and progress documentation.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma and some college coursework, with prior experience with special needs students encouraged.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of college coursework or passing of required tests.
• Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement programs.
• Assists professional staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Accompanies students on field trips to assist with supervision.
• Assists teacher with parent contact to foster effective involvement.
• Assists students with special needs to maximize inclusion and learning.
• Participates in IEP process and serves as resource for evaluation team.
• Assist students with daily living activities as needed.
