Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools is seeking a College & Career Readiness intern to support teachers and students in the FWCS system. The Student Intern will assist a certified teacher, help prepare instructional materials, and provide clerical support in a classroom environment.

Starting immediately, the role is an hourly, special program position for high school juniors or seniors with basic office and computer skills and strong oral and written communication. The pay rate is $10 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must currently be a FWCS high school junior or senior.
• Must have some office, computer, and oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist a certified teacher in instructing individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment.
• Assist in monitoring and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects.
• Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in various subject areas; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
• Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials.
• Assist designated adult in monitoring students during outdoor and recess activities as required; monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
• Read books to students and observe their reading abilities as assigned by the position; assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition as required; assist students with spelling and writing exercises and assignments.
• Provide classroom support to the teacher by preparing and setting up work areas, decorations, posters and displays, and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials.
• Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly and clean manner.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.
