Job summary

SAMUELSON ELEMENTARY in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Classroom Associate to support teachers and supervise students. This full-time position is funded with Title I funds and requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

You will assist with reading and math instruction, monitor progress, and maintain records. Strong communication and the ability to relate to a diverse student body are essential; occasional training and adherence to district policies are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, HiSET, or G.E.D required.
• Ability to relate to students.
• Ability to collaborate with a diverse workforce and student population.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support the classroom teacher with reading and math instruction; working with small groups or individual students.
• Assist the teacher in monitoring student progress by maintaining records and providing feedback as requested.
• Take directions for instruction from the classroom teacher. Work in collaboration with teacher(s) using developmentally appropriate practices.
• Use positive reinforcement techniques and strategies to assist in managing behavior throughout the school routine including transition times, lunch, and recess.
• Maintain professional learning and growth by attending provided training.
• Other duties, as assigned.
