Job summary

Evergreen Public Schools is seeking a Classroom Paraeducator for the Transitional Kindergarten program at Sunset Elementary, Vancouver, WA. The role supports instruction, supervises students, and assists the instructor to meet learning outcomes during a 7-hour day across 190 days per year.

Classroom Paraeducator (Transitional Kindergarten Program)

LOCATION: Sunset Elementary School

REPORTS TO: Instructor/Building Principal

DEPARTMENT: Elementary

Hours / Work Times

7 Hours Per Day (7:15 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)

190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after08/19/26.

Position Contingent Upon Grant Funding

Must meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements as follows*:

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; AND
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    • Have received a passing score of455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS); or
    • Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
    • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university; or
    • Have completed a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council).

*If you do not meet the required qualifications listed above, your name will be screened out from the list of qualified candidates.

Upon hire, new paraeducators will be required to complete state required training offered through Evergreen School District.

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Paraeducator Class II

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Under the supervision of the classroom instructor and the building Principal, the Classroom Paraeducator will assist in the supervision of instructional activities, working closely with students on an individual as well as a small group basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the classroom instructor in supervising and working with elementary and/or secondary students as follows:
    • Communicate effectively with students.
    • Assist in providing instruction to students so as to meet course outcomes.
    • Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment as specified by course goals and curriculum outcomes.
    • Assist in evaluating and specifying direction of instruction so as to maximize each student's potential.
    • Maintain accurate data on student progress.
    • Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
    • Implement behavioral management strategies using the emphasis and techniques that have been outlined by the teacher.
    • Assist in organizing and preparing a variety of instructional materials.
