Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support teachers and enhance student learning. The position requires a minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited institution or a Missouri substitute certificate.

The Classroom Assistant will assist in supervising classrooms, help with instructional materials, and provide support during all activities including lunch and recess. A friendly attitude and effective communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Teaching certificate preferred; substitute certification required.
  • Ability to understand limited role of classroom assistant.
  • Friendly, helpful attitude in working with students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with duties assigned by the classroom teacher.
  • Support the teacher in classroom management and control.
  • Help collect resources and assist with field trips.

$18.69 per hour if MO teacher certified

30 hours per week, 6 hours per day.

Schedule: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Position Summary

Assists with duties assigned by the classroom teacher to enhance the learning of all students.

Essential Functions
  • Accept direction from classroom teacher
  • Assist at times with additional responsibilities and assignments as needed by the teacher or principal
  • Assist in the development of learning packets and other instructional aids
  • Assist teacher with carrying out his/her responsibilities by setting up demonstrations, copying instructional materials, and checking progress in class assignments
  • Assist the teacher in specific routine activities such as drills, reinforcement, grading objective tests and papers, developing verbal and listening communication skills, and demonstrating helping, guiding, and interest-building exercises
  • Assist the teacher in the overall supervision, control, and management of the classroom
  • Assist with field trips
  • Help collect resources for use in the classroom
  • Review teacher’s lesson plans and understand the classroom assistant’s role in assisting the teacher to implement the lesson plans
  • Under the direction of administration will supervise students during lunch and recess time as assigned
  • Under the direction of the classroom teacher, learn techniques for implementing curriculum
  • Under the direction of the teacher, assist with independent, tutorial, and small study groups
  • Work directly with teachers to carry out specific tasks related to students’ needs
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff and parents
  • Ability to move within building, classrooms, and playgrounds
  • Ability to relate and communicate to students regardless of their needs
  • Ability to safely supervise children in all areas of the building, inside and outside
  • Ability to understand limited role of classroom assistant with respect to teacher responsibilities
  • Proficient with computer using MS Office and Google programs, printer, fax, and phone
Basic Requirements
  • Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited college/university or Missouri substitute certificate
  • Friendly, helpful attitude in working with students and staff
  • Positive, caring manner with children
