Job summary

Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency – Head Start in Salem, OR is seeking a Classroom Aide to support preschool children in a safe, engaging environment. You will work with Teachers and Teacher Assistants to help children develop socially, emotionally, physically, and academically while assisting families and classroom teams.

The role involves assisting with activities, supervising children, and helping with meals and daily routines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Previous experience with young children is preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook are expected.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers with classroom activities, projects, and learning experiences.
• Create a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for children.
• Engage with children through play, reading, and songs.
• Assist with setup, organization, and rotating learning materials.
• Supervise children indoors and outdoors to ensure safety.
• Participate in family-style meals and encourage social interaction.
• Assist with classroom cleaning to maintain a sanitary environment.
• Provide coverage during breaks, lunches, and absences.

You’ll play an important role in helping children develop socially, emotionally, physically, and academically while supporting families and classroom teams.
• Support teachers with classroom activities, projects, and learning experiences
• Help create a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for children
• Engage with children through play, conversation, singing, reading, and hands-on activities
• Use positive guidance and redirection strategies
• Assist with classroom setup, organization, and rotating learning materials
• Supervise children indoors and outdoors to ensure safety at all times
• Participate in family-style meals and encourage social interaction
• Help children build confidence, independence, and emotional skills
• Assist with classroom cleaning and maintaining a sanitary environment
• Support classroom coverage during breaks, lunches, and absences
• Participate in emergency drills and safety procedures
• Collaborate with staff and families to support children’s success What We’re Looking For:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Previous experience with young children preferred

• Required Certifications: (Or ability to obtain after hire)
• CPR/First Aid Certification within 60 days
• Food Handler’s Card within 30 days
