Job summary

dfa operates a delivery truck safety and efficiently, delivering dairy products to customer locations on an assigned route. You will unload manually, build relationships with customers, and meet needs according to the route schedule.

Responsibilities include following routes, loading/unloading, maintaining vehicle, handling paperwork, merchandising products, and promoting new items while ensuring compliance with DOT and DFA rules.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement per DFA/DOT rules.
  • Must meet all DFA motor vehicle records requirements.
  • Knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT rules and DFA policies.
  • Deliver pre-ordered or special orders to customers per the route schedule.
  • Follow routes and schedules; report delays due to conditions.
  • Load and unload product at stops; stock and rotate as needed.
  • Provide merchandising support and promote new products when appropriate.
  • Maintain good customer relations; resolve issues with supervision.
  • Ensure vehicle and equipment maintenance; keep the vehicle clean.
  • Secure loads and document daily activities and trips.
  • Complete all required paperwork and hand-held reports daily.
  • Maintain route inventory levels and verify freight condition.
  • Attend driver workshops and training; use company systems properly.
  • Represent DFA professionally in all interactions.

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Operate a delivery truck (e.g., straight truck, pup truck) safely and efficiently and manually unload/deliver various dairy products to customer locations on an assigned route schedule. Build relationships with customers and become familiar with their operations to meet needs and expectations.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practices

  • Deliver pre-ordered or unscheduled (special orders) products to customers (schools, grocery stores, nursing homes, etc.) according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations (e.g., put deliveries inside coolers and walk-ins) in a safe and timely manner

  • Follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel. Report delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents or breakdowns

  • Based on route design, load and unload product as required at designated stops (manually with hook, 2-wheel cart and/or pallet jack); may include stocking, rotating, and/or ordering of product (varies from route to route)

  • Provide merchandising support based on customer requirements and promote the addition and sales of new products if appropriate

  • Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers, resolve customer complaints, and report any problems to the driver supervisor or manager

  • Ensure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment used (tires, fuel, oil check, etc.) and maintain a clean vehicle

  • Ensure load is properly secured prior to travel and at each stop and make adjustments when needed

  • Complete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day. Complete DOT and customer paperwork including delivery tickets, pre and post trip inspections, driver logs, trip records, and vehicle service reports

  • Submit all customer paperwork and deposits daily, including invoices, load orders, and handheld reports

  • Ensure sufficient route inventory levels to meet customer demands while adhering to account inventory control and company distribution procedures; document condition of freight before departure

  • Attend all driver workshops and training sessions

  • Use company supported applications or systems properly

  • Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals

OUR TRUCK DRIVERS FOR THIS POSITION CAN MAKE UP TO:

$26.50/hour


SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday 4am to Finish

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Up to 2 years of experience driving a delivery truck (straight truck, pup truck) within the last 5 years preferred

  • Must meet minimum age requirements

  • Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records

  • Must meet all DOT requirements

  • Certification and/or License – valid Class B/Class B with Air Brake CDL


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements

  • Skill in proficient computer usage

  • Skill with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurements

  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Able to be proactive in seeking solutions and taking appropriate steps to solve problems
