Job summary

Gillman Home Center in Eaton, OH seeks a CDL Driver/Lumber Yard Associate to transport lumber and materials, assist customers, and support yard operations. The role requires a Class B CDL endorsement, a valid DOT card, and a willingness to operate trucks and forklifts.

The position is full-time, on-site, with 40 hours per week, typically Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm. Safety and customer focus are emphasized in daily duties and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver license; Class B CDL Endorsement required.
• Valid DOT medical card.
• Forklift experience preferred.
• Knowledge of lumber and building materials preferred.
• 1–2 years of customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent service to customers.
• Assist customers loading and unloading lumber and building materials, and load deliveries as needed.
• Operate trucks and other equipment and deliver materials to homes and job sites.
• Plan routes to ensure economical use of time and equipment.

Job description

The CDL Driver/Lumber Yard Associate will perform a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving and coordinating transport of lumber and other materials to customer job sites. This position will report to our EATON, OHIO store location.

Essential Functions:

• Provide excellent service to customers.
• Treat all team members, vendors, and customers with courtesy and respect.
• Greet and assist customers in a positive, approachable manner. Answer customer questions and work with the management team to resolve customer concerns.
• Perform a variety of duties, such as but not limited to; assisting customers loading and unloading lumber and building materials, building loads as needed, operating trucks and equipment, delivering materials to homes and job sites.
• Plan route to ensure most economical use of time and equipment.
• Manually carry building materials onto job site. Building materials including drywall are often heavy and awkward and require precise placement on the job site while avoiding damaging materials or the surroundings.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance, including cleaning, on assigned equipment and trucks. Refer defects or repairs to supervisor. Keep accurate daily inspection logs as required by law.
• Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
• When not on delivery any other lumber yard tasks will be required. These may include: maintaining store grounds, assisting customers, straightening and cleaning the yard, cycle counts, equipment maintenance, etc.
• Always continue to make customers a priority while performing other duties.
• Ensure a safe working environment. Maintain situational awareness. Identify and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Help out in other departments as necessary.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not directly supervise anyone.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements:

The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the day.
• Must be able to drive a truck and forklift for deliveries.
• Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs at times.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, scheduled on the day shift, 40 hours/week. Mon-Fri 7am-4pm.

Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid drivers license; Class B CDL Endorsement is required.
• Valid DOT physical card.
• Forklift experience preferred.
• Knowledge of lumber and building materials preferred.
• 1-2 years of customer service experience preferred.
