Job summary

Quaker Windows & Doors is seeking an Over the Road Driver to safely pick up and deliver goods nationwide, using a semi-truck and trailer. The role includes unloading assistance, maintaining hours logs, and ensuring secure cargo handling.

Extensive overnight travel is required with 1,800–2,500 miles per week typical. A valid Class A CDL, clean driving record, and navigation skills are essential. You will operate within safety protocols and document all trips and cargo paperwork.

Qualifications

  • 21 Years of Age at a Minimum
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • No more than 2 chargeable or preventable motor vehicle accidents within the past 5 years
  • No more than 3 violations of motor vehicle laws within the past 2 years
  • No convictions of any offense involving operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs within the past 5 years
  • Must be able to use navigation tools

The Over the Road Driver will safely and efficiently pick up and deliver goods for the company throughout the United States using a semi-truck and trailer. This position will also assist in the unloading of products and maintain logs of working hours.

The Over the Road Driver will safely and efficiently pick up and deliver goods for the company throughout the United States using a semi-truck and trailer. This position will also assist in the unloading of products and maintain logs of working hours.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Safely drive truck and trailer on all public roads and at customer shipping/receiving locations
  • Maintain electronic logs of working hours and daily vehicle inspections, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure cargo is properly secured before and during trips
  • Document pre-trip inspections
  • Ensure all load-related documentation, proofs of delivery, etc. are complete and accurate
  • Safely operate all electronic devices required to perform the job, such as an Electronic Logging Device, GPS Navigation System, barcode scanner, etc.
  • Interact and communicate with customers, suppliers, law enforcement, co-workers, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  • Upon delivery, the driver is responsible for removing straps and otherwise preparing products to be unloaded, unless customer performs such tasks
  • Handle large windows and doors, safely assist in the loading and unloading of products at a customer location and/or return products.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds, especially in difficult situations such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or tight loading dock areas.
  • Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including electronic driver logs, fuel purchases, mileage records, and other records required by law or company policy including a current Commercial Driver's License and a current Department of Transportation medical card.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure that it is in good working order. Complete a work order for any maintenance needs for the truck
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
  • Communicate via email, prepare trip paperwork and work schedules.
  • Review and analyze data and information concerning loads.
  • Plan, prioritize and monitor delivery activities.
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
Supervisory Responsibility

No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.

Safety

Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment; report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly. The individual must follow Safe Lift protocols and all safe driving laws.

Travel

Extensive overnight travel throughout the United States is required. Most drivers average between 1,800 and 2,500 miles per week.

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Preferred Education And Experience

The expectation is that the individual has achieved a minimum level of education and/or related expertise to qualify for this position.

  • Minimum 2 years verifiable driving experience, or proof of driving skills based on a company-facilitated road test
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Drivers may be asked to operate a tractor/trailer combination for up to 14 consecutive hours per day (11 hours driving, total of 14 hours on duty), in all types of weather, for up to 70 hours in an 8-day period. Days and hours of work include days, evenings, nights and weekends. Extensive travel throughout the United States is required and hours will vary. Drivers depart Sunday or Monday. Upon their return they may be sent back out to the end of the week.

The Employee Must Be Able To
  • Safely climb in and out of a tractor cab or trailer
  • Sit for extended periods of time in a truck seat
  • Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery
  • Regularly scoot or move objects on a rolling cart weighing up to 100 pounds, and occasionally scoot or move objects on a rolling cart weighing up to 400 pounds;

This position must use team lift any time objects exceeding 75 pounds need lifting or carrying.

It is an essential job function and safety rule, applicable to every employee working in a safety sensitive classified position, to be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Work Environment

The employee sits while driving an enclosed truck daily. Additional indoor work will include filling out paperwork. Indoor temperatures may not be controlled. While loading and unloading goods, the employee is exposed to climactic variations. Finally, the employee will sleep in a truck sleeper berth during the required 10-hour off duty periods.
