Job summary

Performance Foodservice in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a CDL-A Driver to deliver food and related products across intrastate and interstate routes, with overnight and layover opportunities.

You will work a 10-hour shift, Monday through Saturday with Sundays off, pass DOT regulations, perform safety checks, and maintain accurate paperwork; average annual pay around $80,000 with comprehensive benefits from Day 1.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 21+ years old with valid CDL-A.
  • 12 months of commercial driving experience.
  • Clean MVR for past 3 years.
  • DOT health card current or able to obtain one.
  • Post-offer drug test and background check required.
  • Ability to lift 10–90 lb freight and operate equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections per DOT.
  • Follow DOT regulations and company safety policies.
  • Ensure proper loading, securement, and paperwork for freight.
  • Maintain DOT hours of service and accurate records.
  • Unloading damaged goods and returning equipment to check-in.
  • Support other duties as assigned.

Position Purpose

Food and food service delivery Drivers fulfill a critical role in the country's food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only make sure the customers' products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition, but they are the face of our company - building lasting relationships with our customers!

The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive and drop routes for the purpose of delivering and/or unloading food and food related products to customers in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Job Functions
Major Functional Responsibilities
  • Perform all required safety check (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspect tractor/truck and trailer to insure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Report all safety issues and/or repairs required.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Check and complete in an accurate and in legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight. Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times. Unload damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork and procedures at end of shift. Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required.
  • Complies with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements, adhering to DOT, state, and company policies.
  • Upholds overall safety standards and follows guidelines for the proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process

Required Qualifications
Required Education
  • High School Diploma/GED or
Equivalent Experience Required
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Valid CDL-A
  • 12 months commercial driving
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift; product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location
