Job summary

CarMax Oceanside is seeking a Fleet Driver to join our operations team. You will transport vehicles between CarMax locations, perform thorough safety inspections, and ensure accurate DOT logs while upholding CarMax standards.

The role requires a valid CDL A, 2+ years of CDL driving, and physical ability to handle loads. Expect a safety‑minded environment, reliable schedules, and a driving role that keeps you home daily.

Qualifications

• Must be 21+ with valid CDL A and a clean driving record.
• 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience required.

• Must pass CarMax Driver Safety Evaluation.
• Outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards.
• Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors with a company truck.
• Deliver vehicles on time to support inventory flow and store schedules.

Role Responsibilities

• Safety first — conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using company hauler

• Stay compliant — maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation

• Transport with Care — load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands‑on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Be accountable — move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well‑maintained, and operationally ready.

• Deliver with purpose — deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.

• Represent CarMax professionally — interact with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects our values every time.

Required Qualifications– All Drivers

• 21 years of age or older with a valid state‑issued driver’s license.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; candidates must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport; and perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
• Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi‑level transport decks.
• Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Works efficiently and uses time wisely.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
• 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience (Military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered).

The hourly rate for this position is:

$28.60 - $48.70

Benefits

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

• To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
• For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
