Job summary

CarMax Louisville is seeking a Fleet Driver I to transport vehicles between CarMax locations and vendors. You’ll perform safety inspections, secure loads, and maintain DOT logs while delivering on-time inventory.

This role combines outdoor work with professional interaction with stores and vendors. The position requires a valid Class A CDL with at least 2 years of experience, a clean driving record, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Able to climb, bend, kneel to access multi-level decks.

• Valid Class A CDL and 2+ years of CDL driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections per DOT and CarMax standards.
• Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely, including hands-on freight handling.
• Move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company truck; keep equipment maintained.
• Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and store schedules.
• Interact professionally with vendors, store associates, and the public reflecting CarMax values.

Role Responsibilities

• Safety first — conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using company hauler
• Stay compliant — maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation
• Transport with Care — load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Be accountable — move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready
• Deliver with purpose — deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule
• Represent CarMax professionally – interact with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects our values every time

Required Qualifications

• All Drivers 21 years of age or older with a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; candidates must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport; and perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
• Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Works efficiently and uses time wisely.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
• 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience (Military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered).

The hourly rate for this position is: $21.50 - $36.60

Benefits

• Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
• Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible: To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
• For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.
• If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.
• Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
