Job summary

ERIE is seeking a Claims Manager to supervise and advance a team of claims professionals in a dynamic environment. The role requires leadership in claims operations, training, and performance management, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and timely resolution of complex claims.

The position involves overseeing coverage reviews, developing procedures, and coordinating with leadership on strategic initiatives. Occasional travel for catastrophe assignments may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus six years claims-related experience, or Associate degree with four years, or Bachelor’s with two years.
  • Experience using estimating software preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Associate in Claims (AIC) designation preferred.
  • Licensing requirements for NC, WV, KY; valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel for catastrophe assignments; PPE usage is required.

Job description

  • Supervise, train, and monitor assigned claims adjusters and other claims personnel
  • Assist Claims Leadership in overseeing and handling claims
  • Manage overall operations of the designated area of authority
  • Interview, hire, train, and direct personnel
  • Conduct performance assessments, coordinate discipline, and oversee employee development
  • Regularly review claims and adjusters’ files for coverage and adequate reserves
  • Answer claims questions, provide counsel on claim correspondence, and resolve coverage and unusual questions
  • Conduct related research and maintain working knowledge of adjusters’ files and statutory laws
  • Recommend and help develop and evaluate claims procedures with the Claims Manager
  • Handle claim complaints and inquiries
  • Receive and direct processing of legal papers served upon ERIE and direct outside legal counsel activities
  • Assist with trial preparation and attend pre-trial functions and trials as necessary
  • Review reports, payments, and buyer information; negotiate with salvage auctions and yards when required
  • Contribute to projects, initiatives, teams, and assignments supporting business strategy and operational outcomes
  • Serve on the Catastrophe Team, including possible short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and six years of claims-related experience; or Associate degree and four years of claims-related experience; or Bachelor’s degree and two years of claims-related experience
  • Experience using estimating software preferred
  • Experience in a leadership role preferred
  • Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) designation preferred
  • Appropriate license(s) required by applicable states, including ability to secure and maintain dual or multiple licenses as business needs require
  • Must have or obtain NC, WV, and KY licenses
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Driving occasionally (<20%)
  • Manual keying/data entry/computer use often (20–50%)
  • Ability to travel on short notice for catastrophe assignments, potentially for more than two consecutive weeks
