Job summary

Erie Insurance is seeking a senior claims leader for the Casualty Claims Division. Qualifications

  • Six years of claims related experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • An Associate degree with four years of claims related experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with two years of claims related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and applicable state licenses as required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, trains and monitors the activities of assigned claims adjusters and staff.
  • Reviews claims for coverage and reserves, and provides guidance on further action as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of statutory laws and adjusters’ files.
  • Coordinates with leadership to develop and evaluate claims procedures.

Position Summary

Supervises, trains, and monitors the activities of assigned claims adjusters and other claims personnel. Assists the Claims Leadership in the overseeing and handling of claims.

  • This is NOT a remote position. The successful candidate will report to their closest branch office.
  • The successful candidate will be required to have or obtain their NC, WV, and KY license.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains, and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.
  • Reviews claims on a regular basis in accordance with company policy. reviews adjusters’ files for coverage and adequate reserves, acts as a resource for answering claims questions, provides additional services as required and takes action as necessary. Reviews claim correspondence and provides counsel on further action.
  • Resolving coverage and other unusual questions within designated authority. Conducts related research as necessary.
  • Maintains and applies working knowledge of adjusters’ files and statutory laws.
  • Makes recommendations to and participates with the Claims Manager in developing and evaluating claims procedures.
  • Handles claim complaints and inquiries.
  • Assists the Claim Manager and may act on manager’s behalf as necessary.
  • Receives and directs the processing of legal papers served upon ERIE involving claims action and directs activities of outside legal counsel as required.
  • Assists in preparation for trial procedures and attends pre-trial functions and trials as necessary.
  • Reviews reports, payments and buyer information; and, in some instances, negotiates with salvage auctions and salvage yards on behalf of the company as required.
  • Contributes to projects, initiatives, teams, or other assignments to support business strategy, objectives, expectations, or operational outcomes.
  • This position requires the incumbent to serve on the Catastrophe Team, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.[AL2.1][AL2.2][RS2.3][AL2.4][RS2.5]

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and six years of claims related experience required; or
  • Associate degree and four years of claims related experience required; or
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of claims related experience required.
Additional Experience
  • Experience using estimating software preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership role preferred.
Designations and/or Licenses
  • Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) designation preferred.
  • Appropriate license(s) as required by applicable state(s), including the ability to secure and maintain dual or multiple licenses as business needs require.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
