Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks a dedicated Workers Compensation Claims Specialist to join the West Region Claims Team. You will review, analyze, and process moderately complex to complex claims, determine liability, and negotiate settlements for property casualty claims with bodily injury or property loss.

Depending on experience, roles include Specialist II or Senior Specialist I/II. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Lake Oswego, OR, or Chandler, AZ, and will work onsite twice a month.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in workers’ compensation claims handling, including lost-time and litigated claims.
  • Direct claims-handling experience from investigation through resolution.
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in claims adjustment, general insurance or formal claims training.
  • Required to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses.
  • Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU).
  • Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology, and legal aspects of claims.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct investigations of claims, including interviewing insureds, witnesses, and claimants, collecting documentation, and securing evidence.
  • Determine need for, and engage independent adjusters, cause-origin experts, and independent medical examiners.
  • Refer claims to subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate.
  • Assess policy coverage, notify insureds of issues, determine and establish reserve requirements, and adjust reserves during claim processing.
  • Assess actual damages, conduct negotiations within authority limits, and settle claims.
  • Coordinate litigation activities for assigned claims, ensuring timely and cost-effective resolution; attend trials as a company representative.
  • Act as senior technical professional on the team, assisting with escalated issues.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in Quality Review processes.
  • Participate in Suit Committees, Roundtables, Arbitrations, Mediations, field investigations, and closed file reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

We are looking for a dedicated Workers Compensation Claims Specialist to join our fast‑growing Claims Team in the West Region. You will review, analyze, and process moderately complex to complex claims using the latest technology. Your responsibilities include determining liability and compensability, evaluating losses, negotiating settlements, and managing commercial property/casualty claims involving bodily injury or property loss. In addition, you may support the Claims Team Manager by assigning new claims, providing technical direction, and monitoring caseloads.

Depending on your experience, you will be considered for the following levels: Claims Specialist II, Senior Claims Specialist I, or Senior Claims Specialist II. The salary range reflects the varying pay scales across locations.

• Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Lake Oswego, OR, or Chandler, AZ, and will be required to work onsite twice a month. • Candidates residing in CA and WA will be considered at all locations and may be eligible for 100 % remote work. This policy is subject to change.

The full range reflects competitive market value and provides opportunities to progress as you grow within the role. Some positions may include a compensation plan with commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on factors set forth in the plan.
