AXA XL in the United States seeks a Claims Specialist – Design Professional to manage professional liability claims for architects and engineers across multiple jurisdictions. You will review matters, set timely reserves, and work with defense counsel to pursue cost-effective resolutions that protect our insureds and AXA XL.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred.
  • Intermediate level professional liability claims-handling experience.
  • Licensing: Insurance adjuster licenses for all states requiring licenses, or willingness to obtain.
  • Proactive task management with ability to prioritize multiple streams.
  • Robust analytical and technical skills for complex claims.

As a Claims Specialist – Design Professional, you will play a critical role in managing and resolving professional liability claims for architects and engineers. You will interact and collaborate with regional practice leaders, brokers, and insureds on assigned accounts, taking ownership of critical issues relating to claims management. Our professional liability claims handlers are tasked with proactively resolving and settling claims to achieve optimal outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Proactively managing Design Professional liability claims across multiple jurisdictions, including initial review, coverage evaluation, developing resolution strategies, and ensuring ongoing communication with stakeholders and claims management to achieve the best outcome for the insured and AXA XL.
  • Using robust technical skills and subject matter expertise, handle complex and difficult claims within authority level, with focus on setting timely appropriate reserves.
  • Partnering with defense counsel in setting and pursuing effective and cost-efficient litigation strategies consistent with AXA XL litigation management best practices.
  • Evaluating settlement value and negotiating claims and litigated matters within authority, as well as participating in mediations and settlement conferences. Consistently employing strategic litigation management skills throughout the life of all claims.
  • Coordinating and managing communications with internal colleagues and key external stakeholders (e.g., clients, brokers, reinsurers, vendors, etc.) ensuring the highest level of customer service.
  • Ensuring all documentation is present in the claim file and ensuring that Claims Handler Guidelines and protocols are followed
  • Maintaining high-quality relationships with insureds and brokers through frequent contact and responsiveness to their needs, including promptly reviewing contracts for insurability when requested.
  • Active participation in marketing and promotional activities with some component of public speaking.
You will report to the Manager of Design Professional Claims.

  • Education:Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor (JD) preferred
  • Experience: Intermediate level professional liability claims-handling experience. Experience managing, negotiating, and resolving complex claims.
  • Licensing:Insurance adjuster licenses for all states requiring licenses, or willingness to immediately obtain such licenses upon starting employment.
  • Proactive and Results-Oriented File Handling:Ability to proactively manage assigned claims, approach tasks proactively, and anticipate needs.Proactive decision making, ability to prioritize multiple workstreams while maintaining quality.
  • Analytical and Technical Skills:Robust analytical and technical skills to handle complex and difficult claims applying sound judgment skills.
  • Collaboration:Ability to collaborate with claims management on large and complex losses.Capability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with insureds, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters, and legal counsel.Willingness to seek input from others as needed to achieve the best result possible for the insured and AXA XL.
  • Communication:Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and influencing skills.Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to make sure we provide the highest level of customer service.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 88,500-154,900.
This role can be based in one of several AXA XL office locations, including New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Exton, PA; or Hartford, CT under our hybrid work model.
Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
