Liberty Mutual is seeking a Claims Manager II for our Commercial Insurance Casualty leadership team in Plano, TX. You will plan, organize, and direct the Excess claims handling activities, driving superior outcomes through workforce management, data analytics, and process improvements.

The role requires collaboration with underwriting, legal, reinsurance, brokers, and insureds to align on strategy, mentor staff, and guide claims actions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Direct a team to ensure resources and skills for complex Excess claims.

• Review and approve expenses and settlements within authority; refer beyond limits.

• Prepare management reports on operations and performance trends.
• Stay aware of legislation and trends in claims litigation.

Liberty Mutual has an immediate opening for a Claims Manager II position for our Commercial Insurance Casualty leadership. The Claims Manager II plans, organizes, and directs the Commercial Casualty claims handling activities within an Excess Claims team. In this role, you will achieve superior claims outcomes through effective workforce management, quality service delivery, and the use of technology, data analytics, and processes/programs.

Please note we have in‑office requirements of at least twice a month if you reside within a 50‑mile radius of any of these Commercial Claims offices: Boston, MA; Hoffman Estates, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; Westborough, MA; or Weatogue, CT. This requirement is subject to change.

Responsibilities

• Manages team to ensure that adequate resources and technical skills exist to handle complex, high‑exposure Excess claims in accordance with Company service standards and expectations.


• Drive a culture of urgency, accountability, disciplined collaboration, and clear communication.


• Partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders - including Underwriting, Legal, Reinsurance, Brokers, Insureds, Counsel - to align on claim strategy and achieve optimal outcomes.


• Model strong leadership and decision‑making in a dynamic environment where priorities, exposures, and stakeholders' needs can shift quickly.


• Actively attracts, develops, and engages talented claims employees while simultaneously addressing employees who are not meeting expectations.


• Focuses staff on continuous improvement, engaging in the transformation and sustainability efforts, looking for ways to build capabilities, and driving organizational effectiveness.


• Participates in short to medium‑term strategic business planning.


• Reviews and approves, within assigned authority limits, claim expenses and settlements that exceed the claims employee's authority level appropriately refers claim expenses and settlements that exceed personal authority limits for approval.


• Monitors and evaluates the claims reserve practices within the office and ensures that actual reserves are accurate and established promptly.


• Prepares and distributes management reports analyzing and documenting office operations and performance identifies, analyzes and reports on claims processing trends and issues.


• Maintains awareness of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions and emerging trends in claims litigation to monitor the company's compliance with state and federal legislation.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of Commercial Claims (Excess and Specialized, General Liability, Environmental, etc.), claims investigation, coverage evaluation, loss assessment, reserving, insurance legal & regulatory environment, claims processes, applications/systems and procedures, medical terminology, and finance


• Demonstrated ability to direct the work of others, implement strategies and plans created by senior leaders, develop staff, and achieve goals/objectives the right way


• Other skills required include: planning/organizing work, communication (listening, delivering complex messages, gaining support, promoting collaboration, etc.), diplomacy/tact, business/financial acumen, and adaptability


• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 7+ years of progressively more responsible related work experience


• Claims Management experience preferred.


• Complex Commercial Casualty claims experience required.

Pay Philosophy

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
