Job summary

BKF is seeking a Project Engineer with civil traffic and transportation design experience to support roadway, highway, and multimodal infrastructure projects. Based in San Jose with hybrid or remote opportunities from Redwood City or Pleasanton for the right candidate.

The role emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, design through construction support, and growth of technical expertise in transportation engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 3+ years of traffic/transportation engineering experience focused on roadway/multimodal design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with SignCAD/AGI 32 or Synchro/SimTraffic is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate transportation infrastructure projects (roadways, corridors, roundabouts, ADA ramps).
• Lead traffic engineering tasks including signal design, pavement marking, signage, and multimodal improvements.
• Prepare geometric design plans and profiles meeting Caltrans and local standards.
• Develop grading, drainage, and stormwater plans for transportation corridors.
• Coordinate with public agencies and utility providers; perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.

We’re seeking a Project Engineer with civil traffic and transportation design experience to support the delivery of roadway, highway, and multimodal infrastructure projects. Working alongside experienced project managers and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll contribute to all phases of project delivery - from planning and design through construction support - while continuing to grow your technical expertise and advance your career. Based in San Jose, with hybrid or remote opportunities from our Redwood City or Pleasanton offices for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordination of transportation infrastructure projects including roadways, corridors, roundabouts, curbs, retaining walls, overpasses, transit facilities, and ADA curb ramps

• Design and coordination of traffic engineering projects including signal design, pavement marking/striping, signage, and multimodal corridor improvements

• Preparation of geometric design plans and profiles in compliance with Caltrans, local, and regional standards

• Development of grading, drainage, and stormwater management plans for transportation corridors

• Design of transportation-related utility systems and coordination with public agencies and utility providers

• Development of quantity takeoffs and cost estimates

• Integration of multimodal and sustainable design elements such as complete streets, green infrastructure, and ADA compliance

• Apply Federal, State (e.g. Caltrans), City, and County codes

• Preparation of conceptual design studies and alternatives analyses for roadway and multimodal improvements

• 3+ years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering, with a focus on the design and development of roadway systems, multimodal corridors, roundabouts, curbs, signal design, signing/striping, traffic control, transit facilities, etc.

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program

• Must be proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D

• Experience wth SignCAD, AGI 32, or Synchro/Simtraffic is highly desirable

• EIT certification is highly preferred

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners, including public agencies, consultants, and community stakeholders

• Occasional travel required between BKF offices and client site

Physical Demands

Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions

Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.

• The typical base salary range for this position is $99,000.00 - $135,000.00, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
