Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer (PE) to join the Municipal team in our Kinston, NC office. The role focuses on planning, design, and delivery of municipal civil engineering projects and water resources initiatives that improve public safety and environmental resilience.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop infrastructure solutions and support community wellbeing. A NC PE license and 4+ years of related experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and North Carolina PE license.
  • 4+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, municipal focus preferred.
  • Experience with plan/spec development and contract administration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple engineering projects, scheduling and performance management.
  • Collaborate with project managers to capture client needs and expectations.
  • Prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
  • Interpret engineering plans, specs and reports.
  • Navigate local permitting requirements (NCDOT, NCDEQ, USACE).
  • Provide technical design/constructive advice to clients and staff.
  • Support business development activities and prepare proposals.
  • Coordinate construction administration and field documentation.

We are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer (PE) to join our team and help champion our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable, and Beautiful Communities! In this role, you'll support the planning, design, and delivery of municipal civil engineering projects, as well as contribute to a variety of water resources initiatives that positively impact the communities we serve.

As a Project Engineer, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop infrastructure solutions, apply sound engineering principles, and contribute to projects that enhance public safety, environmental resilience, and community wellbeing.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Responsible for the management planning, scheduling and performance of multiple engineering projects and personnel, both design and construction
  • Work closely with Project Managers in understanding client needs and expectations
  • Review and/or prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and reports
  • Familiar with local permitting requirements such as NCDOT, NCDEQ, USACE, and other applicable local permitting regulations
  • Provides technical advice regarding design, construction or modification and repairs to clients, contractors and other staff members
  • May assist with business development activities (client needs, research, proposals, etc.)
  • Coordinate construction administration and monitor documentation requirements with field staff
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina
  • 4+ years' progressive experience in the civil engineering field, including experience working with municipal infrastructure preferred
  • Experience in plan and specification development with construction contract administration
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency
  • Knowledge of NCDOT requirements
  • Possess a valid drivers license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required
