Job summary

Galloway & Company, Inc. is seeking a Drainage Engineer to support lead engineers in planning, analysis, and design of drainage and stormwater systems for land development projects in Colorado.

You will apply hydrologic and hydraulic principles to develop practical, technically sound solutions with multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include design of conveyance systems, detention facilities, culverts, and water quality features; prepare reports; ensure code compliance; and communicate

Qualifications

• Drainage design experience.
• Hydraulic and hydrologic analyses experience.
• Engineering calculations and plan production experience.
• Experience applying local DOT drainage design standards.
• Proficiency with CUHP, SWMM, HY-8, FlowMaster, StormCAD.
• Strong technical writing and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using industry-standard software.
• Design stormwater conveyance systems, detention facilities, culverts, open channels, and water quality/LID facilities.
• Develop engineering calculations, evaluate design alternatives, and provide technical recommendations.
• Prepare drainage reports, stormwater management plans, and technical memoranda specifications.
• Produce and review drainage plan sheets, profiles, details, and exhibits communicating design intent clearly.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, local agency, floodplain, stormwater, and water quality criteria.
• Coordinate drainage design with roadway, structural, utilities, environmental, and other disciplines.
• Support QA/QC procedures to ensure accurate, complete designs.
• Participate in field investigations and review RFIs, submittals, and drainage questions.
• Communicate findings and progress with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.

About the Role

As a Drainage Engineer, you will support one of our technical leads in the planning, analysis, and design of drainage and stormwater systems across a variety of land development project types. You will apply advanced hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles to develop practical, technically sound solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality engineering designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using industry-standard software including CUHP, SWMM, HY-8, FlowMaster, StormCAD, and related tools.
• Design stormwater conveyance systems, detention facilities, culverts, open channels, and water quality and LID facilities.
• Develop engineering calculations, evaluate design alternatives, and provide technical recommendations supported by sound engineering judgment.
• Prepare drainage reports, stormwater management plans, and technical memoranda specifications.
• Produce and review drainage plan sheets, profiles, details, and exhibits that clearly communicate design intent and satisfy project requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable DOT, local agency, floodplain, stormwater, and water quality criteria throughout project development.
• Coordinate drainage design with roadway, structural, utilities, environmental, and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated project solutions.
• Support technical reviews and implement quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure accurate, complete, and constructible designs.
• Participate in field investigations, evaluate existing site conditions, and support construction by reviewing RFIs, submittals, and drainage-related design questions.
• Communicate technical findings, project progress, and engineering recommendations with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Possession of a PE license or eligibility to take the PE exam within six months of hire.
• Experience performing drainage design, hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, engineering calculations, and plan production for civil infrastructure projects.
• Experience applying local agency and DOT drainage design standards for closed pipe systems, open channels, and water quality design.
• Proficiency with CUHP, SWMM, HY-8, FlowMaster, StormCAD, and other engineering software used for drainage analysis and design.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills with the ability to prepare clear engineering documentation and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Mile High Flood District criteria and standards.

Estimated starting salary is between $95,000 and $119,000 based on experience.
