Overview

The Project Engineer leads a staff which may include a project staff engineer and/or CAD Designer, reporting to a Project Manager. The role requires working independently to plan, execute, and oversee engineering tasks to complete projects.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepare engineering analysis, design, calculations, and reports for review by a Project Manager.
  2. Design grading and drainage for site improvements.
  3. Design utility piping systems including sanitary, water main, fire protection, and storm drainage.
  4. Perform hydrology and hydraulic calculations for piping systems and conveyances.
  5. Collaborate with landscape architects, land use planners, attorneys, owners, and facility managers.
  6. Prepare project drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  7. Assist in proposals and fee estimates for limited scope projects.
  8. Support construction tasks such as responding to RFIs, site visits, reviewing submittals, and coordinating revisions.
  9. Develop and present technical or project-specific presentations.
  10. Mentor staff engineers.
  11. Review plans, prepare permit applications, analyze zoning, and evaluate land use.
  12. Participate in public meetings related to projects.
  13. Stay current on legal and industry regulations.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Formal Education, Licenses and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Michigan P.E. License or ability to obtain

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible engineering experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD for land development; Civil 3D preferred but not required. Familiarity with civil engineering software and Microsoft Office.

Availability

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime as needed.

Travel

Limited travel may be required depending on project locations.
