Job summary

SES Civil and Environmental LLC (SCE) is expanding its Civil Business Line and seeks a Project Engineer to support engineering analyses, technical writing, permit applications, and team assistance. The role is based in Knoxville, TN, with travel up to 40% as needed to support civil projects.

Job description

SES Civil and Environmental LLC (SCE) is expanding its workforce and is seeking a Project Engineer to join our growing Civil Business Line. This position entails supporting the Civil Business Line through various tasks, including but not limited to engineering analyses, detailed technical writing, permit applications, and support of team members.

This position will report to our office location in Knoxville, TN.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties, but not all duties performed for this position. Other duties may be assigned.

• Preparing and reviewing project specific preconstruction plans (i.e., Accident Prevention Plans, Quality Control Plans, Environmental Protection Plans, Transportation Plans, etc.) and other applicable documents for compliance with contract plans and technical specifications.
• Reviewing design plans and technical specifications for technical and constructability evaluations and assisting with estimating to support proposal preparation and construction or civil activities.
• Prepare project specific product data and material submittals.
• Supervising safety and health activities, applicable safety and health requirements in work methods, and methods for inspecting the work to ensure safety and health measures and instructions are being applied properly which comply with contract design and technical specifications, project specific accident prevention plans, and Federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
• Performing quality control inspections, preparing daily reports, and scheduling and performing three phases of control on definable features of work as defined by contract design plans and technical specifications.
• Implementing and managing quality control system in accordance with the contract technical specifications and project specific quality control plan (i.e., USACE Remote Management System and NAVFAC Electronic Construction Management System).
• Setting up surveying equipment and surveying features to assist with the generation of project model, topography, as-built drawings, etc. and to assist with surveying and construction layout for large earthwork and drainage projects (i.e., roadways, site development, landfills, dams, le....
• Assisting field management team members on various projects and providing input on problem solving.
• Assisting engineers, project managers, and other project team members with specific design plan and technical specification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent field of study.
• 0-3 years of experience in the field of civil engineering.
• Ability to perform quantity takeoffs for various types of construction and civil projects and proposals using on-screen and manual take-off tools based on an accurate reading of plans or blueprints, geotechnical reports, requests for proposals, and related documents, and transferring data into software for review with others.
• Ability to review request for proposal package documentation, design plans and technical specifications to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate for request for proposals, request for information, and subcontractor cost quotes.
• Understand basic surveying process and can communicate with land surveyors and construction personnel on a regular basis.
• Familiar with current industry standards and practices.
• 10-40% travel is required.

Necessary Physical Requirements

Employees must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness and situational awareness. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time. Majority of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. Work is mostly performed from a sedentary posture. The employee is regularly required to hear, talk, sit, and use hands and fingers to operate a mouse, keyboard, and phone. The employee may be occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and lift, handle, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust vision.
