Job summary

Spriggs Excavation, Inc. is seeking a 100% Traveling Civil Project Assistant to support civil construction projects across locations.

You will assist the Estimating Team, Project Manager, and field teams, serving as a liaison between office and field operations. The role requires 1–3 years of civil construction experience, travel availability, and a valid Drone License or ability to obtain one within 6 months.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of civil construction experience (internships count).
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and standards.
  • Proficiency with construction management software preferred (e.g., Procore, Acumatica, Primavera P6, MS Project, Microsoft 365).
  • FAA Part 107 Drone License (required or obtainable within 6 months).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Must be able to travel full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager with changes, issues, and project needs to maintain alignment on schedules and scope.
  • Collaborate to maintain the project schedule including weekly three-week updates.
  • Validate IFC plans, quantities, and assumptions and process contract true-ups based on field conditions.
  • Assist with preparing, tracking, and reconciling change orders and contract true-ups.
  • Manage Submittal, RFI processes and ensure timely approvals and closures.
  • Assist with material sourcing and procurement in coordination with PM and Estimator.
  • Support One-Call updates and dig permit coordination for safe field operations.
  • Maintain GPS topos and process survey data for project tracking and verification.
  • Assist with progress meetings, agendas, minutes, and follow-up items.

Job Title: 100% Traveling Civil Project Assistant

Pay Range: $75,000 - $100,000 DOE

Reports to: Operations Support Manager

Position Summary

The Civil Project Assistant supports the successful execution of civil construction projects by assisting the Estimating Team, Project Manager, Superintendent, and field teams. The Civil Project Assistant acts as a critical link between the office and the field, coordinating technical information, documentation, schedule updates, and communications.

Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination
  • Assist the Project Manager with ongoing changes, issues, and project needs throughout the job lifecycle, ensuring alignment on schedules, scope, and project challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and the Superintendent to maintain the project schedule, including the overall schedule and the three-week schedule on a weekly basis.
  • Bridge the gap between estimating and the course of construction by validating IFC (Issued for Construction) plans, quantities, and assumptions, including processing contract true-ups based on IFC drawings and field conditions.
  • Assist with preparing, tracking, and reconciling change orders and contract true-ups throughout the project.
  • Manage Submittal Process – compile, prepare, submit, track and ensure approval in a timely manner.
  • Manage RFI Process – work with Project Manager to prepare and submit RFI’s, track and ensure, closure in a timely manner.
  • Assist with material sourcing and procurement in coordination with the Project Manager and Estimator.
  • Support One-Call updates and dig permit coordination to ensure safe field operations.
Technical & Engineering Support
  • Manage GPS topos including pre-construction, progress, and as-built surveys.
  • Compare GPS models (provided vs. actuals) to calculate and verify quantities.
  • Compile survey data and process it into usable information for project tracking and verification.
  • Maintain FAA Part 107 Drone License and conduct UAV operations as required.
  • Support layout, surveying, and quantity take-offs for materials.
  • Maintain project logs. (Quantity tracker, Submittal logs, RFI logs, etc.)
  • Assist with progress meetings, preparing agendas, meeting minutes, and follow-up action items.
