Job description

Overview

WSP is seeking an experienced Civil/Geotechnical Engineer for our Tucson, AZ office. You will work with our US Mine Waste Team on mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects.

Responsibilities
  • Work within the Mine Waste team, managing civil and geotechnical engineering projects.
  • Perform site and material characterization, facility design, slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and settlement analyses.
  • Design surface water management facilities.
  • Prepare portions of technical reports documenting field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
  • Assist in laying out installations, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, and other systems supported by soil or rock, calculating costs and quantities.
  • Prepare project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct geotechnical engineering studies and surveys to gather design information.
  • Participate in domestic and international field assignments such as investigations and construction monitoring.
  • Execute project work as part of cross‑functional teams.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks; exercise responsible decision‑making and adhere to the Company Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent field.
  • 4+ years of post‑education experience.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or ability to complete the exam within 6 months of start date.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to perform engineering calculations and analyses.
  • Ability to work independently and on teams.
  • Comfortable working in remote settings.
  • Commitment to a safety‑first culture.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to convey ideas effectively to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Self‑leadership and attention to detail; capable of multi‑tasking and prioritizing responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills for analyzing test results, data collation, statistical analysis to arrive at effective solutions.
  • Adherence to workplace safety and WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Availability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek; occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
