Job summary

SCS Engineers seeks a highly experienced Geotechnical Engineer to serve as a Technical Advisor and mentor for our engineering teams nationwide. The role focuses on geotechnical aspects of landfills and environmental projects, including CQA, soil and groundwater remediation, and regulatory permitting.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience, strong collaboration skills, and a passion for high‑quality client service.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering is required.
  • Registered professional engineer in at least one state; reciprocity in others possible.
  • 10+ years of related work experience required.
  • 20+ years of related work experience a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Geotechnical Expert and Technical Advisor on landfills and environmental projects.
  • Contribute geotechnical capabilities to landfill and environmental consulting.
  • Provide QA design for remediation, energy, landfill and related projects.
  • Develop proposals and cost estimates for new projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers nationwide.
  • Present at internal technical meetings and lead sessions.

Job description

SCS Engineers is looking for a highly experienced geotechnical engineer with a strong background in geotechnical engineering, environmental projects, and litigation support to serve our team as a Technical Advisor. This role is uniquely designed for a seasoned professional who will serve as a technical mentor, leveraging their extensive experience to guide and develop our engineering team across a diverse range of projects. Ideally, you will work in one of our Central or Upper Midwest region offices, but hybrid work will be considered.

How you can make an impact

You will serve as a Geotechnical Expert and as a Technical Advisor to our project teams and clients on geotechnical aspects of landfills and other facility design, construction quality assurance (CQA), soil and groundwater remediation, and environmental engineering projects.

As our Geotechnical Expert you will contribute to SCS by adapting your geotechnical engineering capabilities to the landfill and environmental consulting industry. Examples of geotechnical engineering as it applies to our practice include:

  • Measuring and predicting settlement.
  • Providing slope stability modeling for new and old landfills, embankments, and excavations.
  • Conducting geotechnical/hydrogeological investigations for waste management facilities and other environmental projects.
  • Siting, design and regulatory permitting of new and expanding landfills.
  • Designing and preparing construction specifications for remediation, energy production, landfill and other waste management facility projects.
  • Providing recommendations for structural design of foundations for various types of facilities and equipment.
  • For construction projects, designing and planning construction quality assurance (CQA) activities to verify construction complies with design and permit requirements.
  • Preparing proposals and cost estimates for new projects.
  • Providing geotechnical education and training to SCS staff.
Other duties will include

  • Promoting collaborative excellence by encouraging cross‑functional teamwork and open communication to achieve shared goals and drive individual, organizational, and client success.
  • Developing relationships with a network of technical experts throughout the company.
  • Supporting proposals by working with project managers and clients to understand their goals as well as technical needs and requirements.
  • Actively attending conferences, presenting on technical topics, and being involved in professional associations and committees as appropriate.
  • Taking a leading role and presenting at internal technical meetings.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering required.
  • Must be a registered professional engineer in at least one state with the ability to apply for reciprocity in others where needed.
  • 10+ years of related work experience required.
  • 20+ years of related work experience a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing required.
Pay Range

USD $120,000.00 – USD $180,000.00 /Yr.
