Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Civil Estimator in Overland Park, KS to assist with lump sum, unit rate and cost plus estimates and pre-construction activities. You will coordinate multiple discipline estimates into the overall Proposal Estimate and review scopes, quantities, and costs for accuracy.

The role offers on-site work with a strong emphasis on collaboration, safety, and data-driven cost control. A BS/MS in Construction Management or related field is preferred, with field or project

• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search).
• BS or MS graduate in Construction Management or related field is preferred.
• Field experience is a plus.
• Project experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and consolidate discipline estimates into the Proposal Estimate.
• Review design scopes and develop quantities.
• Perform productivity analysis of construction operations.
• Prepare direct labor and indirect cost estimates.
• Prepare contingency, escalation and reconciliation for estimates.
• Update and maintain historical cost data.
• Review designs and specs for cost effectiveness and suggest alternatives.

Job Summary

The Civil Estimator assists in preparation and review of lump sum, unit rate and cost plus estimates and in preparation of conceptual estimating cost analysis. May assist in pre‑construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating Responsibilities

• Responsible for estimate coordination and consolidation of each of the discipline estimates into the Proposal Estimate
• Reviews design scopes and develop quantities
• Performs productivity analysis of construction operations
• Prepares direct labor estimates, distributable or contractors indirect cost estimates
• Prepares contingency, escalation and reconciliation for estimates
• Performs comparisons of scope, quantities and cost data between projects
• Prepares management presentations
• Updates and maintains historical cost data
• Reviews designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggest alternatives where appropriate
• Supports continuous improvement efforts and change management

Pre‑Construction Activities

• Perform Scope Review focusing on:
• Project Objectives
• Deliverables
• Overall Project Requirements
• Assist the Pre‑Construction/Estimating team in developing preliminary Work Packages
• During the Development of Project Work Packages may perform a risk assessment and participate in mitigation strategy discussions
