Job summary

MacKay is seeking a Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our Kellogg, Idaho office, focusing on environmental remediation and heavy-civil earthwork design. Travel of 10–30% is required, with sign-on bonuses for well-qualified candidates.

You will lead remedial designs, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and manage projects from scope through construction, contributing to a growing national infrastructure and environmental services firm.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
  • Montana or Idaho professional engineer license required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in Federal and State environmental regulations or heavy civil/earth-moving projects.
  • Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience with proposals, cost estimates, and specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform environmental and civil engineering tasks, incl. remedial designs for projects in Idaho and Western Montana.
  • Collaborate with MacKay disciplines including structural, geotechnical, and water resources engineers.
  • Conduct technical reviews and project management for deliverables, schedule, and invoicing.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineering staff.
  • Prepare and review technical reports.
  • Develop scopes of work and budget estimates for engineering projects.
  • Manage junior staff performing construction observation.
  • Assist with business development and proposal writing efforts when warranted.

We are seeking a Civil/Environmental Engineer specializing in environmental remediation and heavy-civil earthwork design to join our team at our Kellogg, Idaho office. The position requires experience across multiple phases of environmental and civil engineering consulting, including preparing technical plans and specifications, managing client and design teams, preparing bidding documents, and overseeing field inspections. The engineer will be required to travel for 10-30% of their time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently perform environmental and civil engineering tasks, including remedial designs for projects within the Silver Valley of Idaho and Western Montana. These designs include conducting alternatives analyses, preparing sampling plans, preparing construction drawings and specifications, preparing bidding documents, and managing construction projects.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines within MacKay, including structural, geotechnical, and water resources engineers.
  • Conduct technical review and project management for engineering deliverables, schedule, and invoicing.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineering staff.
  • Prepare and review technical reports.
  • Develop scopes of work and budget estimates for conducting engineering projects.
  • Manage junior staff performing construction observation.
  • Assist with business development and proposal writing efforts, when warranted.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
  • Montana or Idaho P.E. license
  • 5-10 years of experience in Federal and State environmental regulations or related design experience in heavy civil or earth-moving projects.
  • Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels and cross-functionally
  • Ability to collaboratively solve complex technical problems
  • Experience with proposal development, cost estimating, and determining specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations.

US Pay Range: $35 USD - $50 USD

Full-time employees receive a well-rounded benefit package including access to our company-sponsored Medical (including an HSA High Deductible option), Dental, Vision, FSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. We also offer 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401(k) plan with up to a 4% match. Additionally, employees receive paid vacation and sick time, 11 paid holidays, and are able to participate in employee ownership options. MacKay pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual performance bonuses.
