Job summary

Vanderbilt University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering department seeks an Associate Engineer to support research, instructional, and operational activities in the structures laboratory. The role involves testing, analysis of materials and structural systems, and hands-on learning with students on multidisciplinary projects.

Responsibilities include assisting with courses (ES 140, Fluid Mechanics, labs), supporting ASCE student teams, and ensuring accurate data collection and safe lab

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or technology is necessary.
  • Knowledge of civil and structural engineering practices and methods is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory instruction for courses and labs in collaboration with staff engineers.
  • Assist in planning and execution of departmental programs and events.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure data quality.
  • Train undergraduates in the use of laboratory equipment and shop skills.
  • Engage with students daily to support learning, safety, and project execution in labs.
  • Support ASCE student activities and competition projects.
  • Assist in safety, setup, and operations of lab facilities and equipment.
