Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. is currently accepting applications for our 2027 summer internship season in Cedar Rapids, IA.

As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will support municipal infrastructure projects, work alongside engineers and project managers, and gain hands-on field and design experience. You will contribute to construction phase activities, survey and design tasks, and learn reporting, specifications, and cost estimation processes.

Qualifications

• Selected candidates will be enrolled in a Civil Engineering degree program or closely related program from an accredited post-secondary institution.
• Minimum GPA 2.8; Desired GPA 3.2 or above.
• Current Status: Sophomore or above with completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD drafting.
• Must be able to work in extended outdoor conditions and be physically capable of navigating rugged terrain for construction observation duties.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have transportation or access to public transit; travel may be reimbursed.
• Relocation and housing are not included.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, part-time basis or internship; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist on civil engineering projects with tasks involving civil engineering, planning and design.
• Assist with the preparation of reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Assist with construction observation, staking, and administration duties.
• Some opportunities may include work on reports, design calculations, writing specifications, and reviewing shop drawings.
