Job summary

McGill Associates, a civil engineering firm, seeks interns to apply classroom knowledge to real projects across site layouts, grading, water/wastewater design, and related disciplines. This hands-on role supports engineers and involves assisting with plans, analyses, and permit submissions.

Interns gain experience by collaborating on designs, reports, and field inspections, with opportunities to contribute to budgets, cost estimates, and construction documents.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
• AutoCAD/Civil 3D experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Projects may include drafting and design of site layouts, site access layout, grading and earthwork calculations, utility routing and coordination, storm drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, site utilities, water/wastewater treatment plant design, linear design including water and sewer lines, electrical controls, etc.
• Assist in the development of permitting and final documents.
• Assist in the construction administration process including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, the review of contractor shop drawings and calculations, field inspections, and testing of utility systems.
• Assist in performing site evaluations and documenting existing site features and utility systems.
• Assist in the preparation and evaluation of project budgets and cost estimates.
• Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
• Assist in design reports and construction plans.
• Assist with the coordinate preparation of specifications and permit submittals.
• Assist in the preparation of preliminary project cost estimates and evaluate quantities.
• Document design changes and communications.
• Conduct on-site inspections as needed.
