Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to be based in Waterloo, IA or Des Moines, IA. This internship begins in May 2027 and aims to build hands-on skills and provide a broad learning experience within civil engineering.

Qualifications include pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Construction Management with at least one year of study, plus a valid U.S. driver's license and MVR review.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to be based in Waterloo, IA or Des Moines, IA.

This position is expected to begin in May 2027.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.
• Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study
• Intern 1 – completion of first year of qualified study

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Construction Management and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
• As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient with Civil 3D and/or Bentley ORD.
• Experience with Iowa DOT or SUDAS.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $16.25 to $22.33.
