Job summary

KPFF Consulting Engineers in Seattle seeks a Civil Engineering Designer to contribute to land development and infrastructure projects from concept to completion. You will work with licensed engineers and multidisciplinary teams on real-world projects across the Pacific Northwest.

The role offers hands-on design experience, collaboration with project managers, and exposure to regulatory processes, client meetings, and site visits. Strong teamwork and client service mindset are essential.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • 0-4 years' experience under a licensed professional engineer.
  • EIT certification or FE exam scheduled.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and provide exceptional client service.
  • Desirable familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Desirable familiarity with stormwater hydrology modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to planning, design, permitting, and refinement of land development and infrastructure projects.
  • Gain hands-on experience while learning from licensed professional engineers.
  • Apply core engineering principles and mathematical techniques to real-world challenges.

Job Description

KPFF Seattle’s Civil Team designs sites that enable land to be developed for commercial, residential, institutional, and recreational purposes. We also design critical public and private infrastructure systems that support the built and natural environments, including district energy, regional storm drainage facilities, utility grids, and trails. We support projects ranging from feasibility evaluations and master planning to design, permitting, and construction. Our group works in close collaboration with owners, architects, landscape architects, and other engineering disciplines to build a more sustainable, resilient, and thriving community.

Located in downtown Seattle, ourCivil Engineeringteam is seeking aCivil Engineering Designer.This position will provide the opportunity for you to dive headfirst into real-world projects from day one. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the design and development of civil infrastructure across the Pacific Northwest and beyond; as well as:

  • Contribute to the planning, design, permitting, and refinement of land development and infrastructure projects from concept to completion.
  • Gain hands-on experience while learning directly from licensed professional engineers.
  • Apply core engineering principles and advanced mathematical techniques to tackle real-world challenges.
  • Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Build expertise in navigating federal, state, and local regulations, while aligning with KPFF’s and our clients’ standards and practices.
  • Join client meetings and site visits to gain exposure to project development and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An ABET accredited bachelor's degree in civil (preferred) or environmental engineering
  • 0-4years’ experience working under a licensed professional engineer
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or scheduled date for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Passionate about providing exceptional client service

Desired Qualification:

  • Coursework and/or familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Coursework and/or familiarity with stormwater hydrology modeling.
Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project and construction sites may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  • Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate is$80,500 - $90,000 annually.
