DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the development of skills in bridge engineering, transportation engineering, and/or soils engineering environment, along with related support activities. This position could be permanently assigned in either Design, Construction, Operations, or Maintenance.

As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

• Training Participation: Attend and engage in all assigned rotations across district, field, and maintenance settings
• Engineering Support: Assist with studies, reviews, and inspections that build knowledge of PennDOT operations
• Field Analysis: Observe and assess conditions to support engineering judgments and project recommendations
• Technical Reporting: Draft or contribute to reports and documents related to design, geotechnical work, and safety issues
• Project Assistance: Support construction, maintenance, traffic analysis, and materials testing tasks as assigned

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,658.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

• One year of civil engineering experience and a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field that includes or is supplemented by major coursework in civil engineering.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within ten months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
