Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a Civil Engineer at the full performance GS-12 level to review project data and develop structural designs for complex engineering projects. You will coordinate with District organizations and prepare technical documents in accordance with established standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review project data, including field surveys, foundation investigations, soil and geological reports, hydraulic studies, and other site information, to support design decisions.
• Develop preliminary and final structural designs, layouts, drawings, calculations, specifications, and other technical documents per engineering criteria and standards.
• Prepare feasibility studies, design memoranda, and technical reports to support project development and implementation.
• Utilize engineering software and data-processing applications to perform structural analyses and develop designs.
• Develop structural technical specifications and provide information to the Specifications Unit regarding work requirements, sequencing, and bid schedule development.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers preparing project cost estimates and advise on structural aspects affecting costs.
• Coordinate review of submittals with Project Management, Construction-Operations, Planning, Real Estate, Legal, and Contracting.
• Oversee development and processing of project technical products ensuring quality and consistency.
• Conduct field investigations of structural problems during construction and prepare reports with findings and recommendations.

• Develop preliminary and final structural designs, layouts, drawings, calculations, specifications, and other technical documentation in accordance with established engineering criteria and standards.
• Prepare feasibility studies, design memoranda, technical reports, and other engineering documents to support project development and implementation.
• Utilize engineering software and data-processing applications to perform structural analyses, develop designs, and prepare technical products.
• Develop structural technical specifications and provide information to the Specifications Unit regarding work requirements, sequencing, and bid schedule development.

• Conduct field investigations of structural problems encountered during construction and prepare oral or written reports documenting findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications For GS-07

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes supporting less technical civil works or military engineering projects; contributing to the design and construction of engineering structures or systems using established criteria, standards, and specifications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Civil Engineering.

Superior Academic Achievement: In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above.
