Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare structural engineering analyses, calculations, designs, AutoCAD plans, specifications, and cost estimates for in-house, Design-Bid-Build, and Design-Build projects.
- Analyze and design vertical and lateral force-resisting systems, shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, utility supports, and other structural elements.
- Perform structural design using concrete, steel, timber, and masonry.
- Support analysis of environmental and blast loads as required.
- Evaluate structural systems, materials, and construction techniques for applicability to project requirements.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders and multidisciplinary architectural and engineering teams.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum of five (5) years of structural engineering experience of increasing complexity after receiving the applicable degree.
- Minimum of five (5) years of code-compliant structural facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience.
- At least one (1) year of experience working on Capital Improvement projects for a Federal agency.
- Experience designing concrete, steel, timber, and masonry structures.
- Experience with finite element analysis/modeling and/or structural engineering software.
- Knowledge of DoD and Navy structural criteria and standards, including the International Building Code (IBC) and ASCE 7.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited Structural Engineering or Engineering program is desired.
- An ABET-accredited bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering, supplemented by considerable hands-on facilities design experience, is desired.
- Candidates must have experience specifically in structural engineering; experience outside structural engineering, such as geotechnical engineering, land surveying, or civil engineering outside the structural discipline, does not satisfy the PWS requirement.
