Job summary

Olsson is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Site Design team. You will perform basic design through CAD drafting, guide junior drafters, and help prepare project schedules for site development projects.

Responsibilities include design calculations, research, and coordinating with experienced engineers. Travel to job sites and client meetings may be required; flexible work options include remote or hybrid schedules to support work‑life balance.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor's in Civil Engineering and EI/EIT certification.
• Minimum 2 years of civil engineering design experience.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic project design and CAD drafting for site design projects.
• Instructs drafters on how to create drawings of designs.
• Prepares project schedules and assists with design calculations.
• Gathers data, writes technical reports, and supports QA on deliverables.
• Coordinates with senior engineers on non-routine techniques.
• Mentors student interns and supports knowledge transfer.

Job Description

Olsson provides multidisciplinary design services for mixed-use, commercial, and residential land development projects, along with industrial, sports, schools, and other site development types. As Civil Engineer on our Site Design team, you will provide basic project design through CAD drafting, instruct drafters on how to create drawings of designs, and prepare project schedules. You may also perform research, write technical reports, and travel to job sites for observation.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

• Provides small scale design elements for engineering projects using fundamental knowledge, standard techniques, and established methods for small to mid-sized projects.
• Performs basic plan production and receives instructions for necessary tasks.
• Develops and applies knowledge and experience working within design and modeling software.
• Assists with preparation of project documentation and schedules and performs design calculations within a limited scope.
• Coordinates with experienced engineers and designers on non-routine techniques and procedures.
• Gathers research, recommends solutions, and creates drafts of technical reports using prescribed methods.
• Mentors student interns by providing opportunities for developing basic technical skills and knowledge.
• Gains experience with creating and maintaining project and client information within the firm’s project management system.

Olsson currently has growth opportunities for our Site Design group. This role offers flexible work options, including remote and hybrid opportunities, to accommodate diverse working preferences and promote work-life balance. Candidates can work hybrid schedules, work remotely, or work out of any Olsson office location in these regions/areas.

• Must possess Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certificate
• 2+ years of related civil engineering design experience
• Knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil 3D is a plus)
