Overview

Kimley-Horn's Richmond, Virginia (VA) office is seeking a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Roadway team! This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with the design team to develop detailed and efficient roadway designs, ensuring compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.
2. Assist in the development of project plans, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for roadway infrastructure projects.
3. Select appropriate materials and prepare engineering specifications for road construction and maintenance projects.
4. Create alignment and geometric designs for roads, intersections, and other transportation facilities, considering safety and accessibility for all users.
5. Obtain necessary permits and approvals from relevant authorities for roadway projects, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
6. Provide technical support during construction, including reviewing plans, addressing design issues, and overseeing project progress.
7. Conduct inspections and quality control checks to ensure the implementation of design standards and specifications.
8. Integrate environmental considerations into roadway design, considering factors such as stormwater management and environmental impact assessments.
9. Assist in monitoring project progress, budgets, and schedules.

Qualifications

1. 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience.
2. Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
3. Proficiency in using industry-standard design software such as Microstation, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
4. Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, roadway design standards, and traffic engineering principles.
5. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex engineering problems and develop effective solutions.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
7. A collaborative and adaptable approach to work, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
8. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
9. Commitment to staying updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in roadway engineering.
