Job summary

The City of Oakland's Public Works Department and the Department of Transportation are seeking a Civil Engineer (Office) to lead professional civil engineering work, design streets, storm and sewer systems, and review land development plans. You will supervise staff, coordinate capital projects, and ensure project delivery across multiple City divisions.

A CA PE license and a Bachelor's degree are required, with strong leadership and communication abilities to engage with diverse stakeholders

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or closely related field
• Three years of civil engineering experience after bachelor's
• California Civil Engineer license; reciprocity may be granted
• Valid California Driver's License required

Responsibilities

• Perform and lead professional civil engineering work on streets, storm, sewer, and other public works facilities
• Serve as resident engineer on large capital projects
• Coordinate capital improvement projects with contractors and agencies
• Oversee construction contracts and field inspections for compliance
• Review subdivision and land development proposals for code compliance
• Prepare complex engineering reports and staff reports
• Provide technical information to staff, contractors, and the public
• Read and interpret engineering documents and plans
