Job summary

Woolpert, Inc. is seeking a Project Manager to join our Transportation Team in Dayton or Columbus. You will support current project managers, build client relationships, and oversee execution for LPA projects, serving as technical lead on portions of projects.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, Ohio PE or eligibility, 5–15 years in transportation design, and ability to travel 5–10%. Proficiency with MicroStation, ORD, AutoCAD or Civil 3D preferred.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree required.
  • Active Ohio PE license or able to obtain within one year.
  • 5–15 years of transportation design experience.
  • Willingness to travel 5–10% to client sites.
  • Knowledge of ODOT project development process and state/local design practices.
  • Bentley ORD or Civil 3D experience.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; provide direction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams through preliminary engineering, detailed design, and quantification of transportation projects.
  • Lead design or assist in complex roadway projects (roadway, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, roundabouts, trails, multi-modal).
  • Perform engineering design tasks (highway design, alignments, roundabout design, drainage, etc.).
  • Perform designs using MicroStation, ORD, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Respond to proposals by leading scope, schedule, and budget development.
  • Ensure deliverables meet scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage internal and client cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and pursue new client relationships and opportunities.
  • Participate in professional societies and conferences.

Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Project Manager to join our dynamic Transportation Team at our Dayton or Columbus office. This position reports to the Transportation Practice Leader and is responsible for assisting current project managers in the execution of their current projects, developing relationships with our current clients, positioning themselves to manage future projects. Projects managed will likely be for our local government clients (LPA projects) where the Project Manager will lead the overall execution of the project while also serving as a technical lead on a portion of the project. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.

What You Will Do
  • Lead project teams through the development of preliminary engineering, detailed design, and quantification of transportation projects.
  • Lead design or help design complex roadway and transportation projects that require creative solutions. Projects include roadway, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, roundabouts, trails, multi‑modal transportation or transportation planning.
  • Perform engineering design tasks such as highway and street design, roadway alignments, roundabout design, roadway grading and modeling, curb ramp design, signing and pavement plan, maintenance of traffic, storm drainage.
  • Perform designs using software including MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
  • Respond to requests for proposals by leading the development of the proposal submission as well as preparing scope, schedule and budget of projects.
  • Ensure deliverables and quality standards are met in accordance with the agreed scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage and support internal and client cross‑functional teams.
  • Leverage existing relationships and new client and consultant relationships in the pursuit of new work.
  • Actively participate in professional societies, organizations, and conferences by serving on boards, presenting at luncheons or conferences.
What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
  • Active PE License in Ohio or ability to obtain an Ohio PE license within one year of hire.
  • 5–15 years of experience in transportation design (strong preference for roadway experience).
  • Must be able to travel 5–10% to client sites.
  • Knowledge of ODOT Project Development Process, construction documentation & administration and knowledge in state, local municipalities design process is a plus.
  • Bentley Open Road Designer or Civil 3D experience.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment; offer constructive feedback and direction to support goals.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Pay Range: $101,200 — $126,500 USD
