Job summary

Barry Isett & Associates is seeking a client-focused municipal engineer to join our expanding engineering team in Allentown, PA. You will develop and maintain client relations, attend public meetings, and lead infrastructure design projects across roads, utilities, and land development.

The ideal candidate has a PA PE license preferred, 7+ years in municipal design and project management, proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and strong communication skills to coordinate with staff and officials.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of civil engineering experience in municipal projects.
• PA PE license strongly preferred.
• Experience with client relations and business development.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Attend public meetings as municipal engineer representative.
• Manage and design infrastructure projects (roads, sewers, water).
• Prepare cost estimates and review cost estimates.

As a multi-discipline firm, Isett provides a full range of engineering and consulting services, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, environmental, geotechnical, and municipal engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, code enforcement, plan review, construction management, construction materials testing, and grant writing services to clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

We have an opportunity for a client-focused engineer to join our municipal engineering team.

The Municipal Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining client relations and attending client meetings (which can include handling and responding to public input). This role is ideal for engineers who have an entrepreneurial spirit and the aspiration to utilize diverse approaches to various situations.

Because our employees are usually involved in several projects at one time, involving numerous team members (such as project manager, junior engineers, and CADD technician/designer), exceptional communications skills and the ability to work well with others is essential.

Working with our clients and engineering teams, the municipal engineer could be responsible for any or all of the following:

• Working with elected or appointed municipal officials and personnel to determine and meet the municipality’s needs
• Attend public meetings of elected or appointed officials as municipal engineer representativeConduct or supervise plan reviews for submitted Subdivisions and Land Developments
• Work with staff personnel to confirm that subdivisions/land developments are constructed consistent with municipal approvals
• Manage and/or design infrastructure projects, such as roadways, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, culvert replacements, water distribution, park and recreation facilities
• Manage and review bid specifications and provide construction management for municipal infrastructure projects
• Prepare cost estimates or review cost estimates prepared by staff
• Prepare project proposals, contracts, and reports
• Client and project management
• Recruiting/hiring/mentoring junior engineers

Requirements

• Civil Engineers with at least seven years’ experience (PA PE license strongly preferred) in the design and management of municipal projects (with land development experience a plus).
• Experience in building and maintaining client relations and involvement in business development.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D (preferred).
• Ability to attend evening meetings.
• Valid driver’s license – for travel to client sites/meetings.
• Ability to obtain PA Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances.
