Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Civil Engineer, Land Development (Starship Launch Pad) based in Starbase, Texas. You will join a team of elite engineers to design, build, and activate a second orbital launch pad and related infrastructure for Starship.

Responsibilities include planning, grading, drainage, utility design, permitting, and managing civil construction in the field. On-site work is required at Starbase, TX, with flexibility for extended hours and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • 1+ year of civil engineering design, analysis, and drafting experience.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Revit or AutoCAD/Civil3D.

Responsibilities

  • Own site feasibility and conceptual planning, storm water management, grading, drainage and utility design, erosion and sediment control.
  • Perform calculations for grading, drainage, water quality, and underground utilities.
  • Drive coordination and design to obtain local, state, and federal permits for land development and utilities.
  • Manage civil aspects of construction projects in the field, including quality control and contractor coordination.
  • Interact with contractors, owners, and internal clients to develop project requirements, schedule, and cost estimates.
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in real time in the field.

CIVIL ENGINEER, LAND DEVELOPMENT (STARSHIP LAUNCH PAD)

As a member of the launch pad development team, you will work with a group of elite engineers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate a second orbital launch pad and ancillary infrastructure that will further enable orbital launch capability for the most powerful rocket in the world, Starship. This position is based in Starbase, Texas (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area).

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own site feasibility and conceptual planning, storm water management, grading, drainage and utility design, erosion and sediment control
  • Perform all calculations necessary for grading and drainage, stormwater control facilities, water quality, domestic water distribution, and other underground utilities
  • Drive coordination and design necessary to obtain local, state, and federal permits as it relates to land development and utility construction projects
  • Manage the civil aspects of construction projects in the field; including quality control, conflict resolution, and coordination of a multi-discipline contractor team
  • Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and internal clients to develop project requirements, schedule, and cost estimates prior to project implementation
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of professional experience in civil engineering design, analysis, and drafting
  • Experience using a CAD software design package (e.g. Revit, AutoCAD/Civil3D)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Proficiency in technical skills in storm water management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis, grading and other site development related designs
  • Understanding of other disciplines such as electrical, piping, geotechnical, electrical and surveying
  • EIT or Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while maintaining a high sense of urgency in a high-paced, challenging work environment
  • Experience with project management of major construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position is based in Starbase, TX (Brownsville) and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed; flexibility is required
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Stand: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Push/Pull: Up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) 15 minutes or less per day
  • Overhead reach: Up to 3 hours per day
  • Walk: Up to 10 hours per day
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 25 lbs. (unassisted) 15 minutes or less per day
  • Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 10 hours per day
  • Kneel/Crouch: Up to 3 hours per day
  • Upper body twist: Up to 3 hours per day
  • Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees 6 hours or greater per day
  • Candidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, using an air purifying respirator, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description. Candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical to confirm these capabilities, which may include a medical history review
