Job summary

Clark Dietz is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern to join a team of engineers on civil environmental projects across Illinois. You will assist with design/drafting of plant upgrades, lift stations, and forcemains, plus equipment selection, hydraulic calculations, and other tasks as assigned.

The internship offers hands-on experience, mentorship via an Intern Mentor Pod, networking, and skill development. Office-based in Illinois with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to community

Qualifications

• Declared major in Civil Engineering with interest in Environmental engineering.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents.
• Ability to perform basic quantities, verify measurements, and analyze data.
• Good communication and organization with guidance from staff.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel & Word).
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle for commuting to project sites.

Internship Overview

Clark Dietz internships provide a great opportunity to apply academic learning to real world engineering projects through hands on experience. Interns also participate in group activities throughout the summer to learn about the engineering profession, technical areas, and career paths.

As a Civil Engineer Intern, you will work on a team of engineers on the planning and design of civil environmental projects throughout the state of Illinois. The selected candidate will assist with: design and drafting of plant upgrades, lift stations, or forcemains; equipment selection and specification preparation; drainage or hydraulic calculations; and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Students with a declared major in Civil Engineering and a strong interest in Environmental engineering are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents and research specifications and codes as needed.
• Ability to perform basic calculations to compute quantities, verify measurements, and organize and analyze data.
• Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks with guidance from other staff.
• Good communication and listening skills with the ability to ask insightful questions and learn and apply new skills.
• Previous experience using CAD software (AutoCad, Civil 3D) is desired. Proficiency with MS Office (Excel & Word) is required.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle for commuting to project sites is required.
