IDOT’s Civil Engineer Internship offers hands-on engineering tasks related to planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of transportation infrastructure. The internship blends office and field work with a flexible schedule.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a BSCE program, have completed at least 30 post-secondary credits, and be able to commit at least ten hours per week. The position is hourly with a hybrid in-office schedule in Effingham, IL.

Salary: $3,844/month; monthly amount equals approximately $22.09/hour. The hourly rate will vary slightly depending on number of days available for work in the pay period. Interns will be paid for all hours worked

Under immediate supervision,this intern positionperforms supportive engineering tasks associated with investigating, planning, designing,constructing, operating, andmaintainingtransportation infrastructures.Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern will be eligible for permanent employment by placement into a Civil Engineer Trainee title.Working assignments are routine in nature and are under the direction and review of an experienced paraprofessional or professional technical employee. All assignments are reviewed frequently to ensure adherence to criteria as is provided by detailed written or oral instructions.
Generally, participants should work a minimum of 10 hours per week. At the discretion of the Department, this requirement may be adapted for specific circumstances, for example, class or holiday schedules, distance to work site, etc. In addition, the work location of the position, whether in office or hybrid, is at the discretion of the operational needs of the Department.
