Under immediate supervision, for a period not less than six months and not to exceed 60 months, an intern pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering performs supportive engineering tasks associated with the investigation, planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of transportation infrastructure. Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern will be eligible for permanent employment by placement into a Civil Engineer Trainee title. Working assignments are routine in nature and are under the direction and review of an experienced paraprofessional or professional technical employee. All assignments are reviewed frequently to ensure adherence to criteria as is provided by detailed written or oral instructions.
Generally, participants should work a minimum of 10 hours per week. At the discretion of the Department, this requirement may be adapted for specific circumstances, for example, class or holiday schedules, distance to work site, etc. In addition, the work location of the position, whether in-office or hybrid, is at the discretion of the operational needs of the Department.
