Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. in Louisville, KY is seeking a Civil Engineer Student Intern to support our Energy Business Unit on a range of civil design and permitting tasks, gaining hands-on experience in site grading, drainage, and environmental compliance.

The internship is temporary, full-time, 40 hours per week for up to 3 months, with opportunities to extend. Ideal candidates are enrolled in an engineering program and eager to apply classroom knowledge in a team-oriented, real-world setting.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an engineering program (preferably Civil).
• Familiar with CAD tools; AutoCAD and Revit experience preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• Willingness to learn new software and power delivery concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assist team with Civil and Environmental designs and permitting.
• Contribute to site grading, erosion control, stormwater, and H&H tasks.
• Support construction quality control and inspections as needed.
• Prepare drawings and specifications under supervision.
• Assist with field investigations and data collection.
• Communicate effectively with project team and stakeholders.

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer Student Intern to join our team in the Louisville, KY office within our Energy Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working on civil engineering projects in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's global environment. Projects range from site grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, construction CQA/CQC, and hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) design, to large complex civil site designs. This is a temporary full‑time position at 40 hours a week and up to a 3-month duration. Additional schedules will be considered. Required skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, team focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real‑life problems.

• Owner's Engineer Support During Construction
• Field Investigations
• Daily/Weekly Construction Inspections
• Earthwork Construction Quality Control
• Compaction Testing
• Concrete Testing
• ESC Inspections
• SWPPP Inspections
• Environmental Monitoring
• Occasional overnight travel (one to two stays) within 150 miles (up to 5%).

Qualifications:

• Familiarity with CADD design software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD (preferred).
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel (required).

As a GAI Student Engineering Intern, this position is responsible for assisting a team of engineers and project managers with Civil and Environmental designs and permitting. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.

Experience:

• This is an entry-level position with no experience required.
• The successful candidate should be enrolled in an electrical engineering program at a Junior or Senior level.

Education and Training:

• Enrolled in a program to receive a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, preferably civil engineering is required.
• Must have good skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience with drafting programs, particularly AutoCAD and Revitispreferred.
• Willingness to learn new programs and skills in Power Delivery.

Communication Skills:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.

Mathematical Skills:

• Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.)

Computer Skills:

• Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages. Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry..
