Job summary

Opportunity

Stantec is looking for an experienced Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to work as a team member on a wide range of land development projects under the guidance of a Staff Level Engineer or Project Manager. The desired candidate will perform a variety of tasks, which may include engineering analysis, calculations, exhibits preparation, and construction documents. While it is not expected that the desired EIT will be fully proficient in all the various tasks described above, it is anticipated that this person has spent two to three years working in the civil engineering field performing tasks in the land development realm and is on their way to achieving competence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exposure and some experience with grading, drainage, wet utility, street improvements, and other civil engineering design documents; some experience in hydrology/hydraulic storm water modeling and hydraulic modeling of pipe networks.
  • Working knowledge of developing three-dimensional models of civil systems.
  • Exposure to preparing and revising documentation in various civil phases.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Prepare estimates and basic opinions of cost analysis with oversight from senior staff.
  • Assist with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Some experience in the preparation and coordination of project specifications associated with construction documents.
  • Some experience performing calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Utilize techniques for the analysis of specialized civil elements under the guidance of others.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Help conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Work on multiple projects.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience with land development projects in the Portland market.
  • Basic knowledge of agency and industry applicable codes.
  • General understanding of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of civil systems means, methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
  • Possesses excellent time-management skills.
  • Basic understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Ability to manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant design software (AutoCAD Civil3D, etc.).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer-In-Training Certificate.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Local project resume and experience strongly preferred.

Typical office environment: working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
