Your Opportunity

As a Civil Engineer in Training in our Community Development Group in Okemos, MI, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects from the design of civil and municipal engineering projects for highways and local roads, public utilities and public works, parks, trails, pipelines, tunnels, renewable energy projects and related infrastructure projects. This position involves working collaboratively with design teams in the development of construction plans and specifications; preparing reports, studies, and construction contract documents; computing quantities and preparing cost estimates; performing field observations and assisting in the coordination and management of construction activities.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform civil design and technical tasks on projects under the supervision of the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project.
  • Perform field work/construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer/designer and/or construction manager.
  • Perform data analysis and calculations to analyze and design civil system components.
  • Collect data and gather information to support design decisions.
  • Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • Analyze proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and written, with project team members, clients, and contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Seeking a motivated individual who is enthusiastic, flexible, innovative, organized, and possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of general concepts of civil engineering design.
  • Ability and interest in working on a variety of renewables (solar, wind, etc.) type of projects for various clients.
  • Desire to work on projects with a focus on sustainability and green infrastructure.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs and other similar materials.
  • Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and take direction.
  • Strong interest in community development engineering disciplines.
  • Proficient with of Microsoft Office Suite and basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Must have good driving record, and valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and successful completion of the EIT exam or the ability to take the EIT exam within six months of starting preferred. Related Co‑op/Internship experience preferred for new graduates; 1‑2 years of related civil engineering experience for more experienced engineers.

Pay Transparency
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full‑time and part‑time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short‑term/long‑term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full‑time and part‑time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law). Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law. The benefits information listed above may not apply to union positions because benefits for such positions are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
