Job summary

Qualifications

Clark Nexsen is seeking a Civil Engineer. You will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of the Civil engineering portion of a project while working under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Civil Engineer. Typical responsibilities include tasks associated with designing land development projects. This person will work in stand‑alone and multi‑discipline design teams supervised by senior engineers and project managers on projects of all sizes.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F‑1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
  • Perform various aspects of Civil design as directed by a Senior Civil Engineer including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, site design for buildings or subdivisions, design for infrastructure projects, and design related to a business development activity such as a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • Prepare programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed.
  • Coordinate and communicate with design team members to ensure the Civil design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplines.
  • Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed.
  • Perform Civil services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directed.
  • Perform Civil services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed.
  • Comply with quality control policies and procedures.
  • Learn and implement department and company standards.
  • Develop analysis and design skills.
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate efforts with other team members.
  • Work with, respond to, and take direction from Senior Engineers, Project Managers and Design Managers.
  • Work with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects.
Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
  • Perform tasks as directed by senior staff.
  • Document organization and clarity.
  • Discipline drawing coordination.
  • Complete sections and details produced to a schematic‑level of completion by the Engineer.
  • Create schematic‑level site layout and grading plans for projects of low to moderate complexity.
  • Create schematic‑level roadway layout and grading plans.
  • Develop manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design purposes.
  • Participate in developing a model of the site design and utilities in Civil 3D on projects where modeling is a requirement.
  • Assist with preparing LEED templates on projects where LEED certification is a requirement.
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule.

Required Experience
  • Graduate of an ABET‑accredited 4‑, 5‑, or 6‑year engineering program in one of the following disciplines:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Civil and Environmental Engineering
    • Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering
    • Civil Engineering Technology
  • Post‑graduate degree in Civil Engineering or a Civil Engineering‑related degree may be given additional consideration.
  • Completed or be in position to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and all other state requirements for certification as an EIT is preferred.
  • A Civil Engineer should have 2‑4 years of specific post‑graduation Civil engineering experience that includes design of a site, roadway, subdivision, or utilities; development of manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design; development of construction documents (drawings and specifications); coordination with other design team members; and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals.
  • Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36 months of being hired.
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices; pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable.
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to demonstrate personal growth and an expanding knowledge base.
  • Active membership in NSPE, ASCE or other related professional organizations is desirable.
  • Effective utilization of current company software programs for word processing, e‑mail, and information management.
  • Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable.
Working Conditions

At JMT, we prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid working schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties. While most of our work is desk‑based, there may be times when standing, walking, bending and lifting of minimal weight are required. Our office environment is comfortable, has adequate lighting and temperature, and is free from noise, dust, and other hazards.
