City of Kinston is hiring a Civil Engineer I-II to design, inspect, and oversee streets, utilities, and storm water projects. You will work under the Engineering Project Manager and may supervise temporary staff.
You will prepare plans in AutoCAD, respond to public and regulatory inquiries, and develop budgets and reports. A Bachelor's in engineering and EIT eligibility are required, with strong communication and Office skills.
Performs professional work involved in the design, construction, inspection and maintenance of a variety of public works and utility facilities, and related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Engineering Project Manager. Limited supervision may be exercised over temporary employees.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; worker is frequently sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms; work has no special vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a very quiet location (e.g. park trail, storage or file room).
