Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol in the San Francisco Bay Area is seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland team, supporting planning, design and plan production for site development and infrastructure projects—grading, drainage, utilities and stormwater systems.

You will work under close supervision on structured assignments, building foundational civil engineering knowledge and MN project workflows, with a clear path to grow into more independent design work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
• 0-2 years of experience or equivalent
• EIT/FE exam passage preferred and encouraged
• Basic understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site layout
• Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and maps
• Learning MN quality and documentation standards
• Background check per NIST 800-171 and eligibility to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of engineering design documents, plans, and specifications under direct supervision
• Prepare drawings and draft documents under direction
• Collect and organize field data, reports, maps, and geotechnical/hydrological data
• Support feasibility studies and environmental impact data assembly
• Assist with cost calculations for labor and materials
• Complete assigned tasks accurately and on time

Qualifications:

• Exposure to AutoCAD; learning MicroStation or Civil 3D.
• Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and maps
• Beginning understanding of soil composition, terrain analysis, and hydrological data; learning MN quality and documentation standards.
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical Requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.

Base Salary Range:

$38.50 to $44.71 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.
